Gabor Gypsies

Gábors are the most authentic Gypsy groups living in Transylvania/Romania. The name of the ethnic group comes from their family name, Gábor. This refers to a common ancestor. Each family wears the same surname. 

Gábors live in a closed community with strong family and community ties. They prefer social isolation and conventionally marry exclusively within their own community. Their mother tongue is Romani, though they speak Hungarian and Romanian as their own as well. Although they are settled but travel a lot as talented craftsmen and travelling traders all around Europe and beyond.
